We've moved. You can find the new blog here. I'll leave this one up for a time, but if you really want to know what's happening (and not merely what happened), hop on over there.
This just now from the diocesan office:
Further to the email of earlier today, I email to share the funeral arrangements for the Rev’d Stephen Demitroff. The family will receive visitors at the DeBurger Funeral Home, Dresden, on Saturday December 31 from 7–9 pm and Sunday January 1 from 2–4 and 7–9. The funeral will take place at Christ Church, Dresden, on Monday January 2 at 1:30 pm. Clergy are welcome to vest, the colour being white. Your continued prayers for Ruth, family and all who mourn his loss are most appreciated.
Blessings,
Canon sue
On December 28, the Parish of the Transfiguration was sent reeling by the sudden death of our much-loved rector, the Reverend Stephen Demitroff. Details of the arrangements for his visitation and funeral will be posted as soon as they are made known. We ask your prayers for Ruth, his wife of 31 years, and for his children and grandchildren. Some early words:
The Reverend Heather Robinson writes, "A true man of God is in His arms today. Rest in peace, Stephen."
The Diocesan office writes, "Your prayers are requested for Ruth and family on the death of the Rev’d Stephen Demitroff. Stephen died early December 28 following a massive stroke. Stephen was ordained in 1984. His time in Huron included ministry at Glencoe and Newbury (1989-1996); Oldcastle/Colchester N (1996-2005) and Parish of the Transfiguration (Ridgetown, Dresden, Highgate, Aughrim, Florence and Thamesville )(2005 -2011)...The family and all who mourn his loss give thanks for your prayers."
Marney Nichols writes:
Fred Sexton was a good friend of St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Thamesville, just as he was a good friend to all he met. Unfortunately, Fred passed away. But in his generosity and keeping with his thoughtfulness, he remembered St. Stephen's Anglican Church with a bequeathal. Fred, his wife Ethel and Fred's sister Nellie were faithful members and each of them, in their own way, contributed much to the beauty and well-being of this village church. With this thought in mind, the members of St. Stephen's Church purchased seasonal flowers which were dedicated to the memory of Fred in June of 2011 at the 140th anniversary of St. Stephen's Church. Pictured here is the Rev. Stephen Demitroff, Parish Priest of St. Stephen's and close friends of Fred's, Jim and Betty McBrayne. Fred's nephew and family were also in attendance, but needed to leave immediately after the service for a prior commitment.
Thank goodness Anne and Joan remembered how to fold the palm crosses or we would have been there all night...
Joan and Linda write:
Everyone enjoyed fun, food and fellowship at the Annual St. Patrick's Day Party and we even made some money for the Parish of the Transfiguration. Rev. Stephen and Tom are now bragging they are the top euchre players in the parish.
Thanks again, Ruth, for the great photos!
